#groundhog #slacker #6moreweeksofwinter

Oh well, it is a good excuse to paint more winter scenes!

Here is my latest, Winter Solitude.  It is a palette knife painting.

1-3-15 "Silent Walk" 12"x18" Atelier Interactive Acrylic on canvas.
Using a deer photo reference from wetcanvas.com, I began this painting knowing that I had another vision for what the background would be for this deer. In the past I have had trouble breaking away from photo reference and making my own feelings come out. I felt I needed that security blanket as I painted. So with this painting I kept singing How Majestic Is Your Name In All the Earth over and over in my head. I relaxed and let the background "happen." I am pleased with the result.

It's fall, y'all, and time to go to the South Carolina State Fair. My summer art project, "The Music Within," won the Hal P. Moore Award of Merit in the Profession Division. Here is the completed painting.

This has been a busy and creative summer. I did a residency in May helping 500 students make mosaic picture frames for paintings we did in April.

June was spent preparing crafts for Vacation Bible School and doing a Chalk Talk with my husband. July was finding creative ways to help my husband with a golf tournament. During these months, the art below is what I have been working on.

This painting is still in progress. It has also been one of the projects that has taken up my summer.

May 2014

5-29-13 More progress today on "Honey." I thought I would finish today, but I want more detail.

I have been way behind in my postings! Sorry about that. I spent much of April and May teaching oil painting and then Mosaics to 500 elementary students.

Now that May is nearly over, here is my latest painting on my easel. There is still work to do, but I am happy with the results so
far.
